Every blogger, affiliate marketer want their content to rank high in Google’s top 10. Because top 10 spots send most of the traffic to sites.

But for some keywords even being in top 20 can send you decent amount of traffic to your blog.

Our concern today is to make sure we do everything required to rank in Google’s top 10.

Based on my personal experience in SEO (search engine optimization) I want to share my experience in SEO and show you exact reasons that may hold your content back from ranking high in search engines.

I will also reveal some interesting facts that many of you may not know about SEO and getting traffic from Google.

So, let’s start our research for reasons and I want you to know that even following these tips and reasons will NOT guarantee your rankings.

Because no one can give guarantees when it comes to SEO. But it will seriously increase your chances of rankings high in Google’s top 10.

Reason # 1 – When you start writing your content you need in 2,3 short sentences exactly explain what you are going to cover in your blog post so your readers know what they can expect from you. In this part you must give confidence that you definitely can and are going to help your reader so they don’t bounce from your page before reading.

Reason # 2 – Never mislead your readers by giving them false information. Give them exactly what you have promised in the title of your blog post. Because if you don’t do so they will bounce and your site will not rank high.

Reason # 3 – In the beginning of your post try to hook your readers by giving more details of what you are going to uncover in your blog post. This will give them a reason to stay and not bounce from your page.

Reason # 4 – If you post is a responsive kind of post to a specific question then you need to provide an answer in the beginning of your blog post. Google will use it as a snippet for your blog post and it’s good in terms of SEO.

Reason # 5 – Create a captivating title for your blog post and possibly include your main keyword but don’t exceed 60 characters because most search engines use a maximum of 60 char. for the title. Include your main keyword in the description of your post as well.

Reason # 6 – Make your title short and informative and clear both for your readers and search engines. Your title should contain a hint that your content is going to deliver a lot of valuable info to your readers.

Reason # 7 – Add more subheadings to your blog post to help readers better understand what you are going to cover in your post and it will expedite your post ranking process. Plus it will help to keep readers longer on your page and not bounce which will positively impact your rankings.

Reason # 8 – Subheadings of your blog post must be short yet descriptive and most importantly, contain hints that readers are going to get more valuable info if they stay on the page. This will help reduce bounces and improve rankings of your blog post.

Reason # 9 – Keep your post length appropriate. If you write about super competitive topic before writing do some research to find out what is the average post length on that same topic. Try to keep length of your post around 3500-4000 words for a competitive topic and around 1500-2000 words for medium competitive keywords. Post length is still critical for high rankings on Google.

Reason # 10 – Your post must contain helpful tips that are not so obvious or that are available on other blogs. Copying other blogs will not help. You need to add more specific and valuable information, tips to make your post as much different from other blogs as possible. It will help reduce bounces from your page and improve rankings on search engines.

Reason # 11 – Give authoritative answers in your post. Before writing content you need to do an in-depth research and provide the most helpful and informative answers. Info must be based on factual data, real facts to back up your statements. It will increase your blog authority, keep readers on your blog and ultimately will help climb up rankings to top 10.

Reason # 12 – Keep your post closely related to the chosen topic and use related words (keywords) so both your audience and Google can understand what you mean. You need to follow this simple rule so your audience and Google can understand what you mean and give you the rankings you probably deserve. For this you need to do a research to find out what terms are used for the topic you chose. Because each industry has specific terms for describing certain things. You must learn those terms so Google and your potential audience can understand you. This is critical for your search engine rankings.

Reason # 13 – Never write first introductory paragraph/s too long because readers may not like it and bounce from your page. Introduction must be clear and concise.

Reason # 14 – All your paragraphs within your blog post must be concise yet informative enough to make your readers happy with what they learn from your content. Never write long paragraphs. People don’t like reading long blocks of text in small fonts. They will bounce and your blog post will never rank high in search engines.

Reason # 15 – Make bulleted list of what will be covered within your blog post. It will help both your readers and Google better understand what you are going to cover within your content. You can also add anchor links within your post so readers can choose what they want without scrolling to the bottom of the page for the rest of your content. This can also positively impact your rankings.

Reason # 16 – Mix text using different fonts, italics or underline some parts of your post or change font color of some parts or make it bold to draw attention to certain parts of your blog post. All this will help make your post more readable and exciting.

Reason # 17 – Choose readable fonts, not too big and not too small for your post. Keep background of your blog clean and white without any background images.

Reason # 18 – Add relevant, informative images that complement your post. Consider images as complementing your post and making it more valuable not just adding images for the sake of images. Google scans images and can read them. That’s why posts with great, informative, educating images always outrank posts with standard images.

Reason # 19 – Add tables or charts whenever it is possible to make your post even more valuable. Tables and charts can be a result of an-depth research that you’ve done online. People love tables with numbers and concise data because they are informative and are easy to understand.

Reason # 20 – Choose fast loading WP theme for your blog. It’s critical for your rankings. Slow and poor optimized wp sites with a lot of errors will not rank high in search engines. To check your wp loading team go to this link.

Reason # 21 – Avoid too competitive topics especially in super competitive niches like MMO (make money online), health related niches like (fitness, weight loss) etc. Competitive keywords are very hard to rank for especially if your blog is brand new. Once your blog gains some authority you can try to rank for competitive topics.

Reason # 22 – Add more internal related links to your blog post. This strategy is very powerful in terms of both readers and SEO. By linking to other posts on your site on topics related to your main blog post you give your readers more reasons to stay on your site. This will definitely improve rankings of your blog post.

Reason # 23 – Add at least one external link from your post to authoritative site with related topic. This is very important in terms of SEO because by linking to authoritative sites you increase your site’s authority.

Reason # 24 – In your SEO plugin write short (75 characters) description for your blog post. This description may appear in search results and if it’s good it can encourage people to click on the link and visit your site. This alone can seriously increase your blog post ranking position.

Reason # 25 – Record a youtube video on the same topic that your blog post and link to your blog post from that video. Plus embed the video into your blog post. This is very powerful in terms of SEO to improve rankings.

Reason # 26 – Add “alt” tag for every image of your blog post. It should contain a keyword related to your blog post topic. It’s not critical but highly recommended for a better SEO practice.

Reason # 27 – Make URL of your post as short as possible yet informative. Preferably it must contain the main keyword of your blog post you try to rank for. URL of your blog post should contain around 100 characters.

Reason # 28 – URL shouldn’t contain numbers or symbols. Instead it should contain the post name, preferably contain your main keyword.

Reason # 29 – If you can get more shares at least on one social network like Facebook, Pinterest or Reddit, it can seriously improve your blog post rankings. It will send to Google a signal that your blog post is super popular.

Reason # 35 – Use keyword tools for competition research, not keywords. Because there are many topics that have a good amount of traffic but keyword tools show zero traffic for them. You can rank for those keywords. To find them using alphabet soup technic or auto suggestion function of Google’s search console.

Reason # 36 – Write a compelling title for your blog post to hook your readers. Title can be like “10 tips for SEO that no one knows” or “15 tools I use to make $3.000 per month”. This type of title will lead to more clicks on your link and can improve rankings.

Especially it applies to high competitive niches like MMO (make money online), health (fitness, weight loss) and the like.

Because probably you will not be getting traffic in the beginning stage of blogging. It’s better to have affiliate links on some of your pages and link to them from all other posts on your site. Consider to create a resource page for that purpose and promote it. It will be better in terms of SEO for your blog.
