I Have a Great Idea – How Can I Make Money With It?

The reason that inspired me to write this article was a phone call from a friend of mine. He knew that I had been involved in internet marketing for a long time and could give him some real advice.

He told me that he had a great idea and would like to have it come true.

The next day we had a friendly talk within 3 hours and I realized that he had no any idea at all on how to make his “great idea” a reality.

It gave me an inspiration to write about it because I realized that many people just like my friend had something on their mind but due to lack of knowledge and experience they failed to achieve any success.

So, I’m going to show you how exactly you can become successful and make money online by applying the right methods. Also, you will learn how to spot scams and stay away from the wrong programs that can destroy your entire business.

Things to avoid

Just like my friend, many folks think that once they have their website up and running they can make a promotional video about their website, upload it to YouTube and then wait for a massive traffic.

Or some people think that they can start adding their link to other videos on YouTube and this way they can promote their business to other people. I have some bad news for you – it will not work that way.

Soon after starting your “promotional” campaign you will find your YouTube account banned by YouTube because that type of “promotion” is known as spamming. One of the internet marketers that I know was actively creating videos and uploading them on YouTube.

He did it ethically and all the videos were related to his own business. Someone, most probably his competitor, reported his video as a spam, and his channel was banned. Though he was doing the right things his account was banned. But what can expect someone who is spamming YouTube?

Some people think that the best and easiest way to promote a business is joining Facebook, Twitter or Google+ and promoting their business via social media. What I’ve explained regarding YouTube above also applies to social network sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and others. This is not the right way to promote a business.

I mean, you can use social media as an additional promotional technique for your business but it should be done wisely. You need to actively and naturally, without spamming participate in discussions and offer people useful and engaging information.

When you leave your comments on any social network website or create your own post you can add a link to your site where you have an informative material that you think might be interesting to others. This way you can gradually increase your reach to a wider audience.

Some people think that they can buy or find a big list of emails and start sending promotional emails to thousands of people. If you want to grow your business ethically you can’t do it that way simply because it will not work.

Most people hate spam and most probably will delete that type of emails without even reading them. I did it myself when I was new to internet marketing and trust me, it was a waste of time.

How to start on the right foot

If you want to start your business on the right foot you need to focus on major search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo because those are the main source of free organic traffic to any website. Yes, you need to focus on free organic traffic or otherwise you will run out of your money trying to buy traffic.

Compared to the traffic coming from social media, such as Facebook or Google plus, search engine traffic is more targeted. I’m not talking about paid traffic coming from Facebook ads.

Facebook advertising allows you to get targeted traffic but if you don’t plan to buy it and want to benefit from Facebook without spending a penny then you shouldn’t expect serious traffic in the first few months or may be year.

Search engine traffic is different and extremely targeted because people use search engines to find what they need and search engines give them the best search results.

If you optimize your site the right way and create enough content, you can bring a lot of traffic to your website and if you add content to your website consistently, your traffic will grow over time.

When you write content for your website you need to create an original content, different from other sites, give people real value and reason to stay on your site. For example, you can find a lot of articles on different topics on my site, which are the result of hard work and it’s taken me months to create that content.

My articles are all related to making money, search engine optimization, affiliate marketing and in principle, I’m writing the stuff that is similar to that available on other sites. But I’m writing in different way, from different perspective, based on my own experience, thus making my material different.

But search engines are not your only concern. You need to focus on social media as well, such as Google plus, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube as mentioned above. Later, if you want to grow your business you can start paid traffic campaigns, i.e. buy advertising on Google, Bing, Facebook and other networks.

You also need to use email marketing, which if done the right way, can seriously increase the conversion rate of your site. Traffic alone is not the only key to success. What is the use of traffic if you don’t have a good product or a useful and engaging content and can’t convert your visitors into customers?

Finally, I tried to show you that if you have a great idea it is not an easy to make money with it. You need to learn a lot of stuff and apply the right techniques to achieve success online.
